What is GivingTuesday and why does it matter?

GivingTuesday follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It’s a global day dedicated to generosity. It’s a moment when people everywhere pause the rush of a busy season and ask: What social good is meaningful to me? Who do I want to support?

This year, GivingTuesday falls on December 2, and it’s one of the most impactful days of the year for ALS Canada. It’s a day when the power of many small gifts can come together to create something extraordinary.

And this year, thanks to one family’s generosity, GivingTuesday is going to be more extraordinary than ever. Right now, we’re inviting you to be part of it.

For Verla Talnariu and her family, their strength was tested when Verla’s husband, Ernie, was diagnosed with ALS in 2017. In just over a year, he was gone.

In that year, the Talnariu family learned to face ALS together. United.

Through the hardest moments, they were united in the kind of love that anchors a family when things feel like they’re falling apart. They rearranged their lives. They made space for what mattered. They showed up for one another, every single day.

They found compassion through people like Kim, their ALS Canada Community Lead.

Kim offered the Talnariu family practical support, presence, care, and understanding. She helped them access the necessary equipment, allowing them to have peace of mind and focus on Ernie and the time they had together.

They find hope for a world without ALS through kindness.

Verla and her family faithfully donate in honour of Ernie. In honour of the amazing husband, father, and grandfather he was. In honour of the thousands of Canadians who are still facing ALS.

They believe in the research ALS Canada funds, and in the power of a national ALS research strategy. They donate because they believe Canada is where the next breakthrough will happen.

This GivingTuesday, join a community united in impact.

To mark this special day of giving, Verla and her family have set aside $30,000 to match donations made to ALS Canada. When you give, they give. Until the match runs out.

It’s their way of turning love into action. Of carrying Ernie’s memory forward. And of making sure families across Canada feel united in the face of this disease. United in care, in action, and united in impact.

Join Verla, her family, and our entire community. Make your GivingTuesday gift to ALS Canada and double your impact.
