The Canadian Collaboration to Cure ALS is a coordinated strategy that will scale three existing Canadian initiatives – CAPTURE ALS, the Canadian Neuromuscular Disease Registry (CNDR), and the Canadian ALS Research Network (CALS) – to ensure every Canadian living with ALS can access, contribute to, and benefit from discoveries that could change the trajectory of their disease.

On April 28, 2025, the federal election was held in Canada, and the Liberal Party won with a minority government. The start of a fresh mandate, with many first-time Members of Parliament (MPs) and a newly appointed Minister of Health, means considerable opportunities to engage with MPs and build relationships with federal decision-makers.

In October 2024, the Government of Ontario announced an investment of $13 million over three years to implement the recommendations of the Ontario Provincial ALS Program – a major step toward helping ensure people living with ALS have access to multi-disciplinary care, essential community services, and the assistive devices and mobility equipment they need, when they need it.

In Canada, what the provincial health care systems provide does not always match the needs of people living with ALS. This statement rings true for Ontario, where the current ALS care and support landscape in the province presents people living with ALS with significant challenges that demand immediate action.
