The ALS Society of Canada (ALS Canada), together with the family and friends of Kevin Daly and the Kevin Daly Bursary Fund, is now accepting applications for the 2026 ALS Canada Kevin Daly Bursary, a $2,500 award supporting post‑secondary students from families affected by ALS.
Established in 2023, the bursary supports students whose lives have been affected by ALS as they pursue their post‑secondary education and seeks to encourage a connection to the ALS community. Since its inception, 12 students across Canada have been awarded the bursary.
“When a young person is affected by ALS in their family, whether through a recent diagnosis, ongoing illness, or loss, it can introduce significant uncertainty into their life,” says Chris Pon, Vice-President, Fund Development at ALS Canada. “Many students pursue their education while navigating emotional, financial, and caregiving responsibilities at home. The ALS Canada Kevin Daly Bursary helps ease some of that pressure.”
Kevin passed away from ALS in November 2024. Today, his wife Elena, daughters Erica and Allison, and a dedicated circle of family and friends continue the Bursary in his memory.
“Having navigated the ALS journey with Kevin, our family is deeply committed to continuing Kevin’s legacy and passion for recognizing young adults impacted by ALS,” said Elena Daly. “We are so touched by the generosity of family and friends who continue to make this possible.”
The Bursary is open to Canadian students accepted into or attending a post‑secondary institution in Canada for the 2026–2027 academic year, at either the undergraduate or post‑graduate level. Applicants must demonstrate a close personal connection to ALS, such as a parent, guardian, or relative who is living with ALS or has passed away from the disease.
Applications are now open and will close at midnight (ET) on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
